As the COVID-19 pandemic continued into the fall of 2020, The Allegheny County (PA) Department of Human Services (DHS) faced new challenges and opportunities to improve its response to the ongoing and emerging needs created by an international health crisis that showed no signs of abating. This report continues where All Hands on a Remote Deck: The Allegheny County Department of Human Services’ Early Response to COVID-19 left off. It covers the last six months of 2020 and the early months of 2021, including topics such as deployment of CARES Act funding and Emergency Rental Assistance, establishment of learning hubs for school-aged children and modifications to the Safe Haven Hotel. While not exhaustive, it provides a glimpse into some of the ways that DHS adjusted to the new reality, some of which will continue to inform practice and policy long after the pandemic has run its course.
