The dashboard below displays data about the number of homicides in the City of Pittsburgh as well as the neighborhoods where they occurred, time of incidents, weapons used, and victim and offender demographics. Use the interactive features to delve into the specific data you want to see.
Data is provided by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and is updated monthly; see the upper right of the dashboard for the date of the most recent update.
Customize the data
Use the dropdown boxes at the top of the dashboard to filter by year, month and neighborhood. Click on other areas of the visualization to filter by time of day, day of week, weapons used, and demographic groups of people involved. Holding the control key allows you to choose more than one selection in a chart. You can also hover over data points for more detail.
Try it out
For example, to find out how many homicides were committed in 2016 by offenders ages 15-34, choose 2016 in the “Select Year” dropdown box (or select the year in the “How Many Homicides Were Cleared” chart). Next, click on the 15-24 age group in the “Offender Age” chart. Hold the control key and click the 25-34 category in the same chart to select both age categories. The other charts will filter to display data corresponding to your selections.
Ready to explore different filters? Click the “revert” button at the bottom of the page to clear all filters and start over.
